Countdown (1987)

Opera in one act. Duration circa 35 minutes.
Commissioned by the Boston Lyric Opera Company under the auspices of Opera America and The National Institute of Music Theater.
Composed during an "Opera in the Eighties and Beyond" workshop.
Awards: 1989 -- First Prize: SW Virginia Opera's "New One-act Operas" Competition.
Libretto by Laura Harrington.
Premiere: February 12, 1987, by the Boston Lyric Opera Company, Boston, Massachusetts.

The Rogue (1986)

Opera in one act. Duration circa 1 hour.
Commissionedby Tobi Haleen.
Composed during a Cummington Community of the Arts Fellowship.
Libretto by the composer based on an original fairy tale by the composer.
Staging illustrations printed in the score and libretto designed by the composer.

Songs, Choruses, Dances, and Background Music for the play. Total duration circa 30 minutes.
Commissioned by The Modern Times Theater (New York).
Premiere: April 25 through May 19, 1985, New York, NY.

The Passion of Vincent van Gogh (1983)

Opera in three acts (eighteen scenes). Duration circa 3 hours.
Commissioned by the National Endowment for the Arts. Research supported by the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) sponsored by the American Council of Learned Societies and the Social Science Research Council.
Composed at the Camargo Foundation during a Camargo Fellowship in Cassis, France.
Libretto compiled by the composer from the letters of Vincent van Gogh (with permission from the Vincent van Gogh Foundation), Paul Gauguin's "Journal," and additional official documents relating to Vincent van Gogh. Each line is footnoted in the score and libretto. German (singing) translation appears in both the score and libretto.
Staging illustrations printed in the score and libretto were designed by the composer, and based on the paintings of Vincent van Gogh.
Premiere: of an abridged version by the University of Texas at Dallas -- April 14, 1984.

Woman (1979)

Chamber Opera in seven scenes. Duration circa 1 hour.
Commissioned by Collage--The Contemporary Music Ensemble of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Libretto compiled by the composer from the Bible, the sonnets of Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and the writings of Simone de Beauvoir, Betty Friedan, and Germain Greer.
Premiere: postponed indefinitely pending text rights negotiations.

Incidental Music for Brecht's "Fear and Misery of the 3rd Reich" (1980)

SATB Chorus. Duration 20 minutes.
Commissioned by the Department of Dramatic Arts, Schiller College, Strasbourg, France.
Premiere: Schiller College -- May, 1980.
